- This test is done on the patient’s serum.
- ELIZA is more sensitive and specific than the screening method to confirm Hepatitis B infection.
What is the significance of Hepatitis B Virus Surface Antigen (HBs)?
- HBs antigen is used to screen donors’ blood.
- This will give the status of the carrier.
- This will be positive in the acute or chronic state.
- It appears in 4 to 12 weeks and disappears in 1 to 3 months.
- Donors with HBs antigen positive should never be allowed to donate blood or plasma.
