Pathozyme Tuberculosis test (ELISA)

Sample for Pathozyme Tuberculosis test (ELISA)

  1. This test is done on the patient’s serum.
  2. A random sample can be taken.

Indication for Pathozyme Tuberculosis test (ELISA)

  • This is a rapid diagnostic test for tuberculosis based on immunological reaction.

The principle of the Pathozyme Tuberculosis test (ELISA)

  1. In the Pathozyme Tuberculosis test (ELISA), it detects three antibodies: IgM, IgG, and IgA.
  2. The PATHOZYME-TB complex test detects serum IgG antibodies to a recombinant 38-kDa antigen specific for  M. Tuberculosis, which is expressed in and purified from E. coli.
  3. The other antigen is a 16-kDa antigen for M. Tuberculosis.
  4. E. coli is the best source for producing this 38-kDa M. tuberculosis-specific antigen.
  5. This test is specific for diagnosing disease due to the M.Tuberculosis complex.

Procedure for Pathozyme Tuberculosis test (ELISA)

  1. To perform the test, the serum is diluted at 1:50.
  2. It detects three types of antigens from three different Mycobacterium species.
  3. The available kit is Pathozyme Myco IgM, IgG, and IgA.
  4. This is a highly specific test for diagnosing tuberculosis.
  5. Test sensitivities and specificities varied widely, with sensitivities ranging from ∼20% to 60% and specificities from ∼65% to 100%.

Literature references for Pathozyme Tuberculosis test (ELISA)

  1. The Patho-TB™ test could be a rapid and inexpensive method for diagnosing pulmonary tuberculosis.
  2. It has high sensitivity and negative predictive value.
  3. Concerning the high number of false-positive results, using a confirmatory diagnostic procedure is mandatory.
    1. Some think it can be used as a confirmatory test for tuberculosis.
