Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder

• ADHD (Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) rate is increasing in the American children
• ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder)  is defined as a problem with the presence of:

1. Not able to focus.
2. They are overactive.
3. They are not able to control their behavior.

ADHD begins in childhood and continues into the adult years.

ADHD is diagnosed more in boys than in girls.

ADHD’s exact cause is not known, but this may be due to the following:

1. Gene abnormality.
2. There may be factors at home.
3. Or there may be social factors.
4. It is found that the brain of ADHD children is different than the other children without ADHD.
5. Brain chemicals may be different.

The number of ADHD cases in children has risen dramatically in the last two decades, going from 6 to 10%.

Research has discovered a host of factors that could increase ADHD:

1. Preterm birth.
2. Low birth weight.
3. History of smoking by the mother.
4. History of drug abuse during pregnancy.
