Diabetes Mellitus and Calculation of the Calories
For diabetic patients need for the diet and calories is different for different patients.
It depends upon:
- Weight.
- Body metabolism.
- Activity during the day.
Follow the following steps:
- Step 1: Calories can be calculated just by multiplying the weight by 10.
- Weight x 10 = total Calories needed per day.
- This is the need when you are not too active.
- Step 2: Can calculate or adjust the calories depending upon the activity per day. Give score depending upon the activity level.
- In case of sedantry habits, then give a score of 3.
- In case of moderate activity, then give a score of 5.
- In the case of a very active person, give a score of 7.
- Step 3: Take the score you gave in step 2 and multiply it by 100 ( suppose 5 x 100=500).
- Add this number of 500 to the calories calculated in step 1 ( suppose was 160 x 10 = 1600).
- 1600 + 500 = 2100 calories per day needed.
